Car rental at Santiago airport SCL is convenient when your first days leave the city. It is a bad default if you are only doing Metro-and-dinner Santiago. We have landed at SCL, walked past the rental counters with envy, and still taken a transfer east because our first three nights were pure capital city rhythm. Book at the airport when your plan leaves Santiago quickly: wine valley overnights, Lake District connections with an early start, or Andes day trips timed for the morning you land.
