6 Best Hotels in Valparaíso (2026 edition)
Jan & Valeria. We travel to Chile often and love sharing tips to help you experience this beautiful country.
Valparaíso is the day that rearranges your idea of Chile. Murals, funiculars, salt air, a working port that does not perform for you. We still tell most first-timers to sleep in Santiago or Viña and visit in daylight. If you do stay, stay on Cerro Alegre or Cerro Concepción. That is the tourist comfort pocket. The rest of the hills are a different conversation after dark.
Our short answer: Book a highly rated boutique on Alegre or Concepción, keep a Booking.com score of 8.0 or higher, and use Uber at night. Read is Valparaíso safe? before you treat the port like a village.
If you are still deciding whether to overnight, our Valparaíso day trip from Santiago is the version we run most often. Beach comfort next door: hotels in Viña del Mar.
Why the hill you sleep on matters

The first time we stepped off the bus here, Santiago’s grid still felt fresh. Twenty minutes later we were climbing a staircase between murals. That contrast is the pleasure. It is also why hotel choice is not a vibe contest. Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción have the restaurants, the viewpoints, the other travelers, and the hotels with scores we will actually book. Lower port streets and empty staircases after dinner are where we get more careful.
We felt fine walking the tourist cerros in daylight with normal awareness: bags zipped, phone not on a cafe table edge, no wandering with a camera at your hip through empty passages. After dark we ride. Uber works here when your eSIM works. That is not fear. That is the same rule we use in Santiago when a street goes quiet.
What Valeria says: Valparaíso is a port city, not a theme park. People who grew up on the coast do not romanticize every alley. Stay on the hills where visitors eat, ride down, and come back up in a car at night. The murals will still be there in the morning.
Day vs night, in practice

- Daylight: funicular up, walk Alegre and Concepción, sit-down lunch with a view, one more viewpoint, done
- Evening: dinner on the same hills, then Uber to the hotel door, even if it looks close on the map
- Late: do not improvise new cerros with a dead battery
Install a Chile eSIM before you leave Santiago. Maps, Uber, and a way to reach the hotel matter more on stairs than they do on a Providencia sidewalk.
What we filter for
We only shortlist hotels with a recent Booking.com score of 8.0 or higher. Check the live score before you book. Scores move, especially on small boutique houses. We want a front desk, a door that locks like a hotel, and a location inside the tourist hills. We are not hostel-first in a hotel post. Shared bathrooms and party common rooms are a different page.
Hotels we would book in Valparaíso
Six well-known properties on or next to Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción. Official Booking.com pages only. No invented affiliate codes.
Hotel Boutique Acontraluz

Hotel Boutique Acontraluz is the Cerro Alegre house we would shortlist first when scores and location agree. Recent Booking.com scores sit around 9.3, with an excellent location rating. Located on San Enrique, Cerro Alegre, in the heart of the hill we actually walk.
Quiet boutique rooms after a mural day. We would book it when we want terraces, a real breakfast, and a door on a street that still has other visitors at dinner. Confirm how you arrive with luggage. These hills punish rolling suitcases. A taxi to the door is part of the stay.
- Wonderful Booking.com score (about 9.3)
- Cerro Alegre address we trust for tourists
- Terrace and house scale, not a hostel
Best for couples who want the classic Alegre boutique stay.
Zerohotel

Zerohotel is the intimate historic house we would book when the terrace view is part of why you stayed overnight. Recent Booking.com scores sit around 9.0 to 9.2. Located on Lautaro Rosas, Cerro Alegre, on a quieter street than the busiest mural block.
A small hotel that still feels like a hotel. Nine or so rooms, ocean-facing loungers, and a location that keeps dinner on the hill. We shortlist it for one or two nights, not a week. Valparaíso rewards a slow morning on a terrace more than a third museum.
- Wonderful Booking.com score (about 9.2)
- Historic building on a quieter Alegre street
- Terrace time after the staircases
Best for couples who want a small, highly rated house with a view.
Hotel Casa Higueras

Hotel Casa Higueras is the restored mansion we would book when the overnight should feel special. Guest scores on major platforms sit in the high 9s. Check the live Booking.com score before you book. Located on Calle Higuera, Cerro Alegre, with gardens, a pool, and bay views.
The splurge on the hill we recommend for tourist comfort. We would shortlist it for an anniversary night when Santiago already handled the flights and you want one coast dinner that does not end on a bus. Confirm parking or drop-off. The house is the point. The stairs around it are not a romantic surprise with a heavy suitcase.
- Consistently high guest scores (check live Booking.com)
- Pool, garden, and mansion setting on Alegre
- Restaurant on site if you do not want to walk far after dark
Best for couples who want the hotel to be part of the memory.
Hotel Palacio Astoreca

Hotel Palacio Astoreca sits in a 1923 building near Paseo Yugoslavo, which is the promenade we send people to for the view. Recent Booking.com scores sit around 9.0. Located on Cerro Concepción / Montealegre, in front of the fine arts museum area.
Concepción hill comfort with a spa and indoor pool if the fog rolls in. Useful when you want a hotel that still functions on a weather day. Valparaíso can go gray. A good room makes that feel like a choice. Ask about the walk from the drop-off point. These streets are steep even when they look short.
- Wonderful Booking.com score (about 9.0)
- Cerro Concepción / Paseo Yugoslavo location
- Indoor pool for a fog morning
Best for travelers who want Concepción instead of the busiest Alegre block.
Fauna Valparaíso

Fauna Valparaíso is the Cerro Alegre hotel we would book when we want a restaurant in the building and a score that stays near 9.0. Located in an ecological building on Cerro Alegre, with breakfast included on the Booking.com listing.
Eat upstairs, sleep upstairs, ride down in the morning. That pattern keeps the overnight simple. We shortlist it for people who like a social dining room but still want a private hotel room. Read recent reviews for noise if the restaurant is busy. Check the live score before you book.
- Wonderful Booking.com score (about 9.0)
- On-site restaurant on Cerro Alegre
- Strong for a one-night mural stay
Best for travelers who want dinner and a bed on the same hill.
Hotel Winebox Valparaíso
Hotel Winebox Valparaíso is the design stay we would book when you want a terrace, a story, and a score around 9.0 from a large review base. Located on Baquedano, on the tourist-hill side of the port, with private terraces on many rooms.
A conversation-piece hotel that still clears our comfort filter. Containers and wine storage as architecture sound gimmicky until the reviews stay high. We would still Uber at night and keep the daytime walks on Alegre and Concepción. Confirm the walk from the lobby to those hills so you are not surprised by extra stairs with luggage.
- Wonderful Booking.com score (about 9.0)
- Private terraces and a large review count
- Use Uber after dinner like the rest of this list
Best for travelers who want a distinctive room and will ride, not wander, after dark.
Overnight vs day trip

Stay overnight if you want sunrise on the hills, a long lunch that is not watching the bus clock, and a night that ends on a terrace. Day-trip if this is your first Chile week, your Santiago hotel in Providencia or Las Condes already feels good, and you do not want a second safety briefing. We have done the day trip more often. We would book one of the hotels above when the coast is a real chapter, not a checkbox.
Two hills well walked beat four hills rushed. That line is still the whole itinerary. Sleep on Alegre or Concepción. Ride at night. Leave the empty staircases for someone else’s Instagram.
How many nights
One night is enough for most couples. Two nights if you want a fog buffer and a slower café morning. We would not spend four nights here on a first trip. Pair Valparaíso with Santiago, or sleep in Viña and come over by day. Depth in two places beats a week of changing hills.
We hope this helps you stay on the hills that treat visitors kindly. Book Acontraluz or Zerohotel if you want the scores and the address we trust, keep the safety page open on your phone, and take the Uber even when the map says it is close.
